While we visited the awesome pinnacles on the South East side of Crater Lake national park Cinko tried his best to understand why they were the shape they were and why they just stuck out of the side of the cliff.
I explained to him that they were created by passages of hot steam from the molten lava that caused the passages to solidify when they were exposed to the air outside the earth, and that they are only visible now as the waters have slowly etched away the softer ground around them over the years leaving the pinnacles in full view.
Finally this clicked in Cinko's brain and he replied, "I sees exactly what you means now, they is pointy chimneys?". In a way he was right so I gave him the thumbs up.
